All papers submitted to HDCS undergo a rigorous blind peer-review process. Research that involves human subjects must include documentation of institutional research board permission on the part of a college/university or organization.
Who May Submit an Article?
Anyone may submit an original article for publication consideration provided the author(s) own the copyright to the work or is authorized by the copyright owner or owners to submit the article. The author(s) are responsible for obtaining permission to publish any copyrighted material and will indemnify HDCS, Homeland Defense and Security Issues Group, Center for Strategic Leadership and Development, and the U.S. Army War College in the event of a copyright challenge or violation.
Manuscripts of 4,000 - 6,000 words (excluding tables, figures, and references from the word count) should be submitted to the Managing Editor, Dr. John E. Powell.
Manuscripts should be submitted as a single Microsoft Word document, double-spaced with 1 inch margins using Times New Roman, 12 pt. font.
All articles should include the following sections: Title page, Abstract, Author Bio, Main Body of Work, Bibliography or References page. If articles are submitted
in the Chicago Writing Style, the paper should contain footnotes at the end of each page. Do not include any headers, footers, or pages numbers in your submissions.
Authors will submit a 200-250 word bio with their article, book review, editorial, etc. All manuscripts must be accompanied by a maximum 150-word abstract and
should follow current Chicago Manual of Style (16th Edition) or
American Psychological Association (6th Edition, 2nd printing) publication guidelines. All citations must also be in
either Chicago Manual of Style (16th Edition) or
American Psychological Association (6th Edition, 2nd printing) format. All submitted manuscripts must include the lead author's name, affiliation, telephone number, fax number, and e-mail address, as well
as institutional mailing address on a cover page that will be removed during the peer review process.
